White Cross, Green Grass

Long and lonely highway,
so many white crosses along the way;
Hidden amongst the long green grass,
Now growing where a soul, once lay.

I never stop, but I always wonder,
who was that I just passed?
What were you like when you were alive?
Is your soul resting at last?

Driving on, my mind wonders,
forgetting the sadness and loss I have seen;
Suddenly, the familiar flicker of white,
hidden amongst the green.
